School counselors provide services directly to students or indirectly through collaboration with others. These activities help students meet Kansas School Counseling Standards and the ASCA National Model, which is a framework created by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA). ASCA sets national guidelines for school counseling programs, focusing on academic, career, and social-emotional development to ensure all students succeed.
Counselors plan and coordinate schoolwide programs, analyze data, organize events like career days, mentor programs, and parent nights, and collaborate with staff and community partners.
Counselors regularly review their programs to improve services and measure student outcomes. They also self-assess and participate in annual performance reviews.
