The KSDE Likert Scale for SECD Growth Measures is a simple rating scale used by Kansas schools to measure students’ social‑emotional and character development over time. KSDE guidance for measuring Social‑Emotional Growth (SEG) explains that districts may use Likert‑type scales in surveys, reflections, or observations to show how often students demonstrate SECD skills such as self‑management, responsible decision‑making, and positive relationships. These scales are commonly four‑ or five‑point scales, with choices that range from low to high levels of skill (for example: rarely to consistently or strongly disagree to strongly agree), allowing schools to track growth rather than assign grades. KSDE encourages using these measures as part of a local, developmental approach to understand student progress and improve supports, not to label or rank individual students.

The School Counseling/SECD/PE Standards Alignment Toolkit supports districts and educators in intentionally aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessment to the Kansas Social, Emotional, and Character Development (SECD) Standards to promote coherent, schoolwide social-emotional learning and positive student outcomes.
