Science Standards

The Kansas Science Standards, the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), guide science education across the state. These standards all include three dimensions: Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs), Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCIs), and Cross Cutting Concepts (CCCs) with the intention of students using the NGSS to make sense of phenomena.  Kansas was a lead-state in the development of the NGSS and initially adopted these standards in 2013. These standards were most recently reviewed in 2025 and will next be reviewed in 2032.

Students are assessed on the NGSS in a state summative assessment in grades 5, 8, and 11.
