Records Available (via Open Records Requests)

The Kansas Open Records Act (KORA) is a state law that requires public agencies to provide access to public records it creates, maintains, or receives in the course of its official duties, unless those records are restricted by law. Examples include:

Administrative and Operational Records

  • Agency policies, procedures, and guidance documents
  • Organizational charts and directories
  • Meeting agendas, minutes, and official reports
  • Internal memos or communications related to agency operations (with applicable redactions)
  • Agency policies, procedures, and guidance documents

Financial and Budget Information

  • KSDE budgets and financial reports
  • Expenditure records
  • Contracts, grants, and procurement documents
  • Vendor agreements and bid materials

Accreditation and Compliance Records

  • School and district accreditation statuses
  • Compliance reports submitted by districts
  • Audit results and monitoring documentation

Statewide Education Data (Aggregated/De-Identified)

  • Graduation rates
  • Assessment results and statewide testing data
  • Enrollment statistics
  • Attendance and program participation data
    (Note: Personally identifiable student information is protected and not released.)

Educator Licensure Information

  • Status of educator licenses (active, expired, etc.)
  • Licensure requirements and application materials
  • Disciplinary actions, when legally releasable

Program and Funding Information

  • Federal and state program documentation (Title programs, special education, etc.)
  • Grant applications and awards administered by KSDE
  • Program evaluation results

Important Notes

KSDE only provides records it maintains. Certain records are not available through KSDE, including:

  • Student transcripts (available through the local school or district)
  • Immunization/vaccination records
  • Personally identifiable student information protected by law
