Meeting Information
The Kansas State Board of Education (KSBE) is responsible for overseeing and guiding public K–12 education across the state. Its main job is to provide general supervision of public schools and all educational interests in Kansas, as required by the Kansas Constitution. The Board helps set educational policies, approves academic standards, and works to ensure Kansas students receive a high‑quality education. It also appoints the Commissioner of Education, who serves as the Board’s executive officer and carries out its policies. The Kansas State Board of Education holds monthly business meetings which are open to the public, typically on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month.

A second meeting is necessary, Board Chair Cathy Hopkins has called an emergency meeting to continue with negotiations for a search firm to guide the Kansas School for the Deaf through the process of finding a permanent Superintendent. The meeting will be virtual, but the public is invited to attend in the Boardroom, 900 SW Jackson, room #102. The meeting will be livestreamed and archived on the YouTube KSDE Livemedia channel.
