Title 1, Part A - Parent and Family Engagement


Per the Every Student Succeeds Act (2015), parent and family engagement is the participation of parents and families in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring –

  • Parents and families play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning;
  • Parents and families are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school;
  • Parents and families are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child; and
  • Other activities are carried out, such as those described in section 1116 of the ESSA (Parent and Family Engagement). (ESEA section 8101(39)).

Title IA Required Documents

The templates below can be used by schools to support them with meeting federally required documentation for Title I, Part A programs.

In addition to the above templates, artifacts demonstrating the occurrence of an annual Title I Parent Information meeting are required. These include a dated agenda, sign-in sheet, and minutes for the meeting.

All Title IA required documents are to be uploaded to the KansaStar system.

Developing a School-Parent Compact (PDF)
The Kansas Parent Information Resource Center (KPIRC) has created this resource to support Kansas schools as they seek to create a school-parent compact that is mandated under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Title 1 Part A.
