Fingerprint Information
The Kansas State Board of Education adopted regulations for the requirement of a fingerprint-based records check. Every licensed Kansas educator must submit fingerprints and have a clear background check, before their license will be issued. Educators are also enrolled in an ongoing background check while they hold an active Kansas Educator license.
Fingerprint Background Check – Fee and Process
Fee Update
Effective July 1, 2024, the fingerprint background check processing fee has increased to $57.
This change is due to an increase in costs from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) for fingerprint-based record checks provided to state agencies.
Who Is Affected?
This update applies to all applicants submitting fingerprints to the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE), including:
- First Kansas certificate or license.
- Renewal of an expired Kansas certificate or license.
- If the applicant has never submitted fingerprints as part of any previous application for a Kansas certificate or license, submit fingerprints at the time of the next license application.
