Adding An Endorsement to Your License
Adding a teaching endorsement to your Kansas teaching license allows you to expand your expertise, qualify for new instructional roles, and better meet student and district needs. It’s an opportunity to enhance your professional value while opening doors to expanded opportunities across Kansas schools.
Educators that hold an active Kansas initial or professional teaching license may add most endorsements by passing the appropriate Praxis content exam. Below you will see what endorsements can be added by testing and what endorsements can only be added after you have completed the appropriate program.
Added endorsement by content exam:
Endorsements that cannot be added by test only are:
- Early Childhood Unified
- Elementary Education
- Elementary Education Unified
- School Leadership
- Building Leadership
- District Leadership
- School Specialist
- Library Media Specialist
- Reading Specialist
- School Counselor
- School Psychologist

- High Incidence (formally known as adaptive)
- Low Incidence (formally known as functional)
- Gifted
- Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Visually Impaired
The requirements for adding an endorsement by testing are:
- You must hold an active Kansas teaching license.
- You must receive a passing score on the appropriate Praxis content exam.
- Have your content assessment score sent electronically to KSDE. Our recipient code is 7270.
Once you have passed the correct content exam, you will need to fill out an added endorsement application and pay the processing fee.
Added endorsement by program completion:
An educator holding a valid Kansas teaching, school specialist, or school leadership license may add an endorsement by completing an approved program in the following area:
- Early Childhood Unified
- Elementary Education
- Elementary Education Unified
- School Leadership
- Building Leadership
- District Leadership
- School Specialist
- Library Media Specialist
- Reading Specialist
- School Counselor
- School Psychologist
- Special Education
- High Incidence (formally known as adaptive)
- Low Incidence (formally known as functional)
- Gifted
- Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Visually Impaired
Once the program is completed and you have passed the appropriate Praxis content exam, the educator must complete an application and pay the processing fee.
