Reminder: Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot window closes Sept. 22

By Amanda Petersen, director, KSDE early childhood

The deadline is Monday, Sept. 22, for all Kansas elementary schools to partner with families of incoming kindergarten students to collect kindergarten-entry data using the Ages & Stages Questionnaires®, Third Edition (ASQ-3) and the Ages & Stages Questionnaires®: Social-Emotional, Second Edition (ASQ:SE-2).

All Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot data - including questionnaires administered via paper, pending Family Access screenings, and any child profiles noting the reason for not participating - must be entered into ASQ Online by Friday, Sept. 26. On Sept. 9, all Kansas ASQ Online users received a tip sheet with steps to finalize ASQ data

  • Accept all pending Family Access screenings.
  • Finalize all paper questionnaire screenings.
  • For any students who did not participate because they were older than 77 months and 30 days old, or because the teacher and family determined screening was inappropriate, or because the family decided to opt out, create a Child Profile in ASQ Online and select the appropriate “Reason for not participating” from the dropdown menu.

Once data is finalized in the ASQ Online system, it is submitted for the year — schools do not have an additional data upload. Participation rate data will be available in the KSDE Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot authenticated application later this year. Data will not be available before the ENRL collection window closes in October.

Visit agesandstages.com/ks for helpful resources, frequently asked questions and the Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot Fact Sheet. Please send one email to Amanda Petersen (Amanda.Petersen@ksde.gov), Stacy Clarke (Stacy.Clarke@ksde.gov) and the Brookes Publishing Implementation Team (implementation@brookespublishing.com) with any requests for ASQ assistance.

The Kindergarten Readiness Snapshot is an important piece of our state’s overall strategy to support each child’s social, emotional, and academic readiness for kindergarten. Engaging with the family of each and every student who is embarking on their kindergarten journey in your schools this year is a major undertaking – thank you for your hard work to be kindergarten ready.
