Call for volunteers to revise educator preparation standards

The KSDE Teacher Licensure team is seeking volunteers to help revise the educator preparation standards for the following license and endorsement areas:

  • Agriculture
  • Business
  • Elementary Unified
  • English Language Arts
  • High Incidence
  • Journalism
  • Low Incidence
  • Speech/Theatre

Indicate interest and availability for any of the license/endorsement areas on the survey: https://ksde.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bm6eYfkG6Je9qrc

Program standards define the knowledge and skills expected of just-qualified program completers ready to enter the profession and guide the design of higher education preparation programs.

Revision committees of eight to 12 members for each content area will be created, with equal representation from Pre-K-12 and higher education. Once there are enough volunteers for each content area, KSDE will send each group its own scheduling poll to set a first meeting date. Each committee will then meet every four to six weeks for an estimated five meetings total, with a goal of having a final draft by Jan. 1, 2026.

Volunteers should hold a license or be higher education faculty in the content area of the standards they review

KSDE appreciates the time and expertise of revision committee members and encourages the time spent on standards work be recognized as professional development service to the profession.

Current standards for each area are on KSDE’s website:
