2025-2030 professional development (PD) plan review information provided

Districts with professional development (PD) plans expiring on July 31, may turn them in to the Kansas State Department of Education starting April 1, but no later than Aug. 1.

Click here for the timeline and the list of districts that are part of this year’s review. KSDE staff will send an email with instructions and other information to the districts by the end of January.

Starting this year, the use of the PD plan template is no longer optional. This requirement is to ensure a consistent, thorough, and timely review of plans. Until the final versions of the guidance and template are released in February, districts can use the updated interim PD plan guidance with template to make sure their five-year PD plan has the minimum components required based on the criteria established by the Kansas State Board of Education and Kansas statutes and regulations. The PD plan review process will result in a complete and compliant plan that is ready to be presented to the State Board for approval.

The final version of the guidance that goes with the PD plan template will include an updated Section 2 that reflects the use of the KESA school improvement model in the creation of the PD plan. It will also clarify the links between professional development committee (PDC) operations, the appropriate limiting of PD points for relicensing, and negotiated agreements.
