To support the Four Fundamentals of School Improvement, the Kansas State Department of Education is collecting data about the instructional materials used in Kansas schools. We believe every Kansas student deserves the opportunity to learn from high-quality, standards-aligned instructional materials and those materials play a foundational role in instructional improvement.

The Accessible Pathways Project aims to better understand and support multilingual learners (MLs) who are blind or have low vision (BLV) and those who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH).

This project is a collaborative effort led by the Minnesota Department of Education and WIDA (housed in the Wisconsin Center for Education Research) that launched in 2025 with a grant through the U.S. Department of Education’s Competitive Grants for State Assessments competition. Kansas is a supporting state in this grant.

Kansas Reads to Preschoolers is an annual event, since 2005, that promotes reading to all Kansas children from birth through age five in the month of November. Through the statewide program, parents, librarians, teachers and caregivers are encouraged to read the chosen title during a selected week and month.
