It was attending a U.S. naturalization ceremony in Topeka that sparked civics teacher Thomas Fulbright’s idea for a lesson plan that ultimately earned him the third place award in a prestigious national citizenship contest this past year.  

“It’s so moving, seeing those people committed to our country,” he said of seeing the Oath of Allegiance taken at the Brown v. Board of Education national historic site. “It was so moving, and I wanted to convey that to my students.”
