The KSDE fiscal auditing team has begun the annual audits of Kansas school districts. This work will continue until all 285 school districts are audited, with the last audits expected to be completed by mid- to late April.
KSDE auditors verify current school year (2025-26) enrollment and attendance data submitted to the Kansas Individual Data on Students (KIDS) and review prior school year (2024-25) expenditures and programs.
To help districts prepare for their annual KSDE audit, district staff should watch for an audit engagement letter and pre-audit questionnaire from KSDE. In addition, about three weeks prior to their scheduled audit, districts must upload items listed on the first page of the “Checklist for School Districts’ Annual KSDE Audit.” Electronic copies of the checklist are sent in advance of audits and are also available on the Fiscal Auditing webpage.
