KSDE calls for nominations to the Professional Practices Commission (PPC)

The Kansas State Department of Education is seeking nominations to fill three vacancies on the Professional Practices Commission (PPC). The open positions are as follows: 

  • Position 1 – Junior high/middle school principal (public school) 
  • Position 2 – Elementary school principal (public school) 
  • Position 3 – K–12 school teacher (public school) 

  

*Please note: Preference will be given to nominees from school districts not currently represented on the PPC

The following school districts are currently represented on the PPC (2025): 

  • Pittsburg USD 250  
  • Goddard USD 265  
  • Buhler USD 313  
  • Shawnee Mission USD 512 
  • McPherson USD 418  
  • Auburn-Washburn USD 437   

 

About the Professional Practices Commission (PPC) 

The PPC was established under K.S.A. 72-2310 and meets as needed (typically monthly or bimonthly). It is composed of nine members appointed by the Kansas State Board of Education for up to two, three-year terms. The commission is comprised of the following educational professionals: 

  • Five classroom teachers (including at least one elementary, one middle/junior high, and one senior high teacher) 
  • One chief public school administrator 
  • One public elementary school principal 
  • One public junior high/middle school principal 
  • One public senior high school principal 

  

The PPC exercises disciplinary and advisory functions, including hearing cases related to the issuance, suspension, revocation, or reinstatement of educator licenses, and issuing initial orders for resolution. 

Nominees must meet the following minimum qualifications: 

  • Be currently licensed by the Kansas State Board of Education. 
  • Have at least five years of professional educational experience. 
  • Have been actively practicing in education for the past three years.
