Action plans due May 15 for schools receiving federal Title funds

Action plans and improvement plans are required by law for schools that 1) operate schoolwide programs; and for schools 2) identified federally for support and improvement. The submission window for both action plans closes Thursday, May 15. Action plans submitted after this date will not be accepted.

For both groups, plans must identify the goals for the building, evidence-based practices they will implement to improve academic achievement and identify the action steps necessary to move towards the desired state of the building once those practices are fully implemented.

For schoolwide programs, action plans are based upon a comprehensive needs assessment.

  • Goals: Each building should have a minimum of one to two academic goals for their building.
  • Indicators: Each building should have a minimum of three indicators and should strive to have no more than five. Plans should be focused so actions are aligned, focused, and intentional.
  • Action Steps: Each indicator should have at least three action steps. Action steps are the critical steps taken to move from the current state to the desired state.

For schools federally identified for support and improvement, improvement plans are based on the reason for identification.

  • Goals: Each building should have a minimum of one to two goals for their building aligned to their reason for identification.
  • Indicators: Each building must have two to three indicators in accordance with guidance from the Kansas Learning Network, their district, and based on their identified areas of need.
  • Action Steps: Each indicator should have at least three action steps. Action steps are the critical steps you will take to move from your current state to your desired state.

KansaStar is the platform in which those plans’ requirements are housed and continuously updated by the buildings. The plans are also monitored and supported by the district and by KSDE on this platform.
