Nugent named KSDE Deputy Commissioner of the Division of Learning Services Atchison superintendent and 2025 Kansas Superintendent of the Year succeeds Dr. Ben Proctor
TOPEKA - With more than 30 years of experience in public education, Dr. Renee Nugent has been named the deputy commissioner of the Kansas State Department of Education’s division of learning services. She will begin her duties on July 1.

WICHITA – Elizabeth Anstine, a business teacher at Leavenworth High School, Leavenworth Unified School District 453, was named the 2025 Kansas Teacher of the Year on Saturday, Sept. 28, during a special ceremony in Wichita.

TOPEKA — On June 25, 2025, Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach sent a letter to members of the Kansas State Board of Education (State Board), asking the State Board to remove language prohibiting discrimination against any person because of gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression from certain contracts it intended to enter into with Kansas public schools participating in U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) food nutrition programs.
