The Derby High School student council recently hosted the Panther Leadership Academy, a workshop for students going into grades 3 through 6 this fall that focused on listening, dependability and flexibility. These themes were explored through games, crafts and interactive activities.
One tradition the camp has observed since it started in 2014 is creating tie-dye shirts (pictured left). The process of tie-dying shirts showcases the uniqueness and qualities each student brings. Everyone wears their finished artwork on the final day of the academy.
Derby USD 260’s free summer learning program (pictured right) kicked off this week to help students from kindergarten through the eighth grade avoid the summer slide. They receive additional tutoring support or enjoy enriching academic activities.
The summer learning program’s activities are planned and led by Derby educators, ensuring students receive instructional support that is engaging and developmentally appropriate. Themed lessons, hands-on projects and fun activities are carefully curated to meet students where they are—whether they need reinforcement in core areas or are eager to explore new academic interests.
