The Kansas State Department of Education is seeking applications for McKinney-Vento mini grants from Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) to address the needs of students in accordance with the McKinney-Vento Act.
The application is due Friday, Feb. 28.
Eligibility to apply for the mini grants include the following:
- Any public school district serving students experiencing homelessness may apply for the FY25 mini grant through a competitive process.
- Priority will be given to districts that are not current recipients of the McKinney- Vento Homeless Children and Youth (HCY) three-year competitive grant.
- Districts interested in applying for the mini grant must complete the application and email it to Maureen Tabasko, Maureen.Tabasko@ksde.gov, no later than 10 a.m. on Feb. 28.
- Grants that are late or incomplete will not be scored.
Grant information:
- A grant review team will evaluate each application no later than March 10.
- Mini grants will be awarded based on the total application score as compared to other applications.
- KSDE will fund the highest scoring applicant, then the second highest scoring applicant, and continue until funding is exhausted.
- Priority will be given to districts that are not current recipients of the HCY three-year competitive grant.
- Grant applications may not exceed $10,500.
Grant period and timelines:
- Districts receiving a mini grant will be notified via email no later than March 14.
- The funding for the FY25 mini grant is a one-time allocation.
