Gov. Laura Kelly declares March 16-22 as National CACFP Week

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly has declared March 16-22 as National Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Week. She was joined by KSDE Child Nutrition and Wellness staff and several Kansas CACFP operators for the proclamation signing on Feb. 28.

The CACFP week is a national education and information campaign sponsored annually the third week of March by the National CACFP Sponsors Association. The campaign is designed to raise awareness of how the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program works to combat hunger. More information about National CACFP Week is available at https://www.cacfp.org/national-cacfp-week-main/

The CACFP is a federal program that provides reimbursements for nutritious meals and snacks served to eligible children and adults who are enrolled for care at participating child care centers, day care homes, and adult day care centers. CACFP also provides reimbursements for meals served to children and youth participating in afterschool care programs, children residing in emergency shelters, and adults over the age of 60 or living with a disability enrolled in day care facilities. CACFP contributes to the wellness, healthy growth, and development of young children and adults in the United States.
