We’re glad you’re interested in becoming a teacher in Kansas. This page provides a list of approved endorsement areas and the Kansas teacher education institutions authorized by the Kansas State Board of Education to offer these programs.


If you’re ready to enroll in a certification program, you’ll find many colleges and universities in Kansas with state-approved options. Upon completing a program and meeting all content requirements, you can apply for an initial educator license to begin your teaching career in Kansas.


Kansas colleges and universities offer both undergraduate and graduate-level teacher preparation programs. These programs include coursework on teaching methods and hands-on classroom experience, allowing candidates to work directly with students in schools.

Early Childhood Education

Elementary Education

Middle School Education 5th - 8th grade

Secondary Education 6th – 12th grade

All Grades PreK – 12th grade

English as a Second Language (ESOL)

Administrator/School Leader PreK – 12th grade

Special Education 

Grade level depends on program that is completed.

School Specialist PreK – 12th grade

Drivers Education 9th -12th Grade
