Pictures of the Week: Outdoor summer learning plentiful in Blue Valley USD 229

Students in Blue Valley USD 229 got outdoor, hands-on learning this past month during the Summer Explorations courses at the district’s Wilderness Science Center (WSC).

Incoming first through sixth graders had their curiosity sparked while learning about prairie, forest, river and wetland ecosystems. The principles of ecology, biology and environmental science were incorporated into these classes where students identified Kansas plants and animals and learned how they interact with each other at the WSC.

“The mission of the WSC is to provide authentic learning experiences that will develop an understanding of, and respect for, preservation and change, balance in natural systems, history of the land and the impact of human intervention,” according to information provided by USD 229.

The district’s other Summer Exploration programs included art, games, writing, music, theatre and many more creative activities.
