The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) and the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) are partnering to offer Reasonable Suspicion Training for commercial driver’s license (CDL) supervisors from 9 a.m. to noon July 19 at the Kansas Association of School Boards, 1420 S.W. Arrowhead Road, in Topeka.
This training is federally mandated for all people who supervise individuals required to have a CDL as a condition of their employment.
If your school district or school bus contractor operates a school/activity bus that requires the driver to have a CDL, and you supervise that driver, you are required by federal law to have Reasonable Suspicion Training for supervisors.
Federal regulation, 49 CFR 382.603, requires schools/employers to provide this training to all people who supervise CDL drivers subject to alcohol and drug testing.
The purpose of this training is to enable supervisors to determine whether reasonable suspicion exists to require a driver to take an alcohol and or drug test. This regulation requires the training to include at least 60 minutes of training on alcohol misuse and 60 minutes on controlled substances use.
This training is designed to meet the mandated training requirement. Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance. This training is a one-time training requirement.
Any school district/school bus contractor employee is welcome to attend even if you have had the training in the past or are not required this training.
This training is being offered free of charge to any Kansas school district employee or any Kansas school bus contractor employee.
