Updates from the KSDE accreditation and design team

Revisions to KESA 2.0 resources

The KSDE accreditation and design team has recently finalized KESA school improvement resources to assist and guide each system in preparing for their 2025-26 School Improvement Day.  A major focus of KESA during the 2026-27 school year will be the implementation of the KESA action plan, which each system developed during the 2024-2025 school year.

The following resources are all linked to the KSDE Accreditation webpage, which can be accessed by going to www.ksde.gov and then clicking on “Accreditation” on the right side of KSDE’s home page.

In addition to the updated resources, the KSDE accreditation and design team has released the 2025-26 KESA Action Plan blank template. Download the template here. Systems will use this resource to draft their 2025-26 KESA action plan. All KESA resources can be found on the Accreditation webpage.

Reminder: KESA fall 2025 in-person information sessions have begun

As the school year begins, the KSDE Accreditation and Design team invites district/system staff to the upcoming Kansas Education Systems Accreditation (KESA) information sessions.

If you are new to Kansas, new to your position, or couldn’t make one of the KESA information sessions this past spring, these sessions are made for you. Here are the topics for each of these sessions:

  • KESA 2.0 review
  • 2025-26 School Improvement Days
  • KESA implementation standards
  • KESA graduation standards
  • KESA compliance

Since these sessions are a repeat of this past spring’s KESA information sessions, it’s not necessary to attend if you were able to be at one in April.  For those wanting to attend, you can choose either the morning session, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. or the afternoon session, 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. No registration required.  These sessions are set up for one or two people from your KESA district leadership team (DLT) to attend.

The following are the dates of the in-person-only KESA information sessions:

  • Aug. 29 - Orion (Clearwater)
  • Sept. 2 - Southwest Plains (Sublette)
  • Sept. 3 - Northwest Kansas (Oakley)
  • Sept. 5 - Greenbush South (Girard)

Jay Scott and Myron Melton of the Accreditation and Design team are facilitating these learning sessions.
