A website to help Kansas students with disabilities transition from their K-12 schooling to their post high school graduation plans is now available.
The Kansas Youth Transition Network (KYTN) announces the website, www.kansasyouthtransition.org. This new online resource offers tools, information and guidance to support students, families and professionals navigate successful transitions into postsecondary education, employment, and independent living. The new website was made possible through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Rehabilitation Services Administration in 2023.
“This website was designed with the student and their family in mind,” said Dean Zajic, project director and assistant director of KSDE’s special education and title services. “Pulling these resources together into one website has been a collective effort of many entities dedicated to making sure our students with disabilities have the best chance for success after high school.”
Transition planning is a vital component of the KYTN website. With support from local KYTN councils, online checklists and other transition-planning tools, students and their families can start the process of planning for transition into postsecondary education, technical training or employment several years before high school graduation. Local KYTN councils consist of youth with disabilities, family members, youth service organizations, schools, community organizations and employers working together to expand and improve the transition service system in Kansas.
KYTN is a partnership between the Kansas State Department of Education, Kansas Department for Children and Families Rehabilitation Services, Centers for Independent Living across the state, local education providers, the Kansas University Center on Disabilities, Families Together, and other partners. Together, they’re working to ensure every young person with a disability in Kansas has the tools and support they need to move confidently into adulthood.
This website is funded by U.S. Department of Education, Grant Number H421E230030.
