Dr. Randy Watson has led the state’s education agency since July 2015
TOPEKA – Dr. Randy Watson announced today he will be retiring as the Kansas Education Commissioner, saying his retirement will not be immediate as he will serve until the Kansas State Board of Education names his successor.

Nugent named KSDE Deputy Commissioner of the Division of Learning Services Atchison superintendent and 2025 Kansas Superintendent of the Year succeeds Dr. Ben Proctor
TOPEKA - With more than 30 years of experience in public education, Dr. Renee Nugent has been named the deputy commissioner of the Kansas State Department of Education’s division of learning services. She will begin her duties on July 1.
Members of the Kansas State Board of Education will meet for their monthly meeting on March 11-12. The March 11 meeting will be in the first floor board room, Landon State Office Building, 900 S.W. Jackson, in Topeka. On March 12, board members will visit the Kansas School for the Deaf, 450 East Park Street, in Olathe, and at the Kansas State School for the Blind, 1100 State Ave., in Kansas City, Kansas.
