Instructional Visions

The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) believes every student in Kansas should have access to strong, high‑quality teaching. Quality Instruction means teachers use proven strategies, set high expectations, and provide lessons that keep students actively involved in learning. Students work with materials that match Kansas Standards, and teachers plan lessons so new ideas connect to what students have already learned. Quality Instruction also includes checking student progress often and giving extra help when needed. Together, these practices help all students work toward grade‑level goals and succeed in school.

Vision for Quality Instruction

The instructional vision documents linked below articulate the components of quality instruction for each content area and illustrate the ideal student experience. Establishing a vision for instruction can help drive various other priorities, including materials selection and implementation. The KSDE recommends districts that have not developed their own instructional visions leverage KSDE's visions linked below as a starting point.
