Dr. Kelly Hoelting, an agriculture educator in Mission Valley USD 330, recently won the Region II Teacher Mentor award given during the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE) convention in December.

According to the NAAE, the teacher mentor award “embodies the profound impact of ‘Leading and Learning Together’.”

“This award program honors those NAAE members who have committed their time and expertise to supporting and celebrating other teachers in the profession,” the NAAE states. “Even though much focus is given to beginning teacher mentoring, mentoring becomes a part of lifelong learning, and this award also highlights those teachers that dedicate their career to advancing our profession through mentoring on all levels including experienced teachers.”

During NAAE’s convention that was held in conjunction with the ACTE CareerTech VISION conference, Hoelting finished up her year-long immersive INFLUENCE program sponsored by NAAE, designed to help agricultural educators develop their leadership and advocacy skills.

Cade Fiske, another Mission Valley USD 330 agricultural educator, joined Hoelting in hosting Future AgriScience Teacher (FAST) Symposium Round Table discussions with future agricultural educators from across the U.S. at the national convention. Fiske also co-presented a workshop for agricultural educators, “Curiosity to Career-Ready: Igniting Inquiry in Ag Education,” which Hoelting attended.

"The insights shared by fellow educators and industry leaders are invaluable,” Hoelting said in a statement provided by NAAE. “I am excited to bring new ideas and strategies into my classroom.”
